It was a great weekend to get the garden started. The boys were especially happy to help me plant all the things.
We live in garden Zone 6b. Our last frost is approximately April 23. With that info, we reverse backwards to when we can start various seeds.
We planted seeds into trays on Saturday. We began with tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, and ground cherries.
Asher snacking on an apple while Courtney helps Shiloh plant seeds. Shiloh ran to get his garden tool bag and demanded that I help him put on his glubs (gloves).
Sunday we shifted our efforts to what we could plant outside. We are using an old door over hay bales for a cold frame. Then in the raised bed and directly into the garden we planted only what indicated direct sow.
Asher was eager to get involved. We planted beets, swiss chard, and tat soi here. We planted tat soi and swiss chard in the raised bed. We directly sowed broccoli and kohlrabi into the garden. After all the planting, the boys needed time to play and take a break.
It felt fantastic to get digging in the dirt again. The boys loved helping with these projects and every hour ask to check if seeds have sprouted yet.
